Hanna's hometown, the barrier island of Grand Isle Louisiana, is the fastest disappearing place on earth. Between coastal erosion, hurricanes, sea levels rising, and the greatest oil disaster in history, my storm ravaged home has a unique relationship with nature. The landscape of our coast is constantly in flux. In her paintings she hopes to express this fluctuating environment while capturing a landscape that will soon disappear.

Rachaela DiRosaria, New Orleans-based contemporary folk artist to create one of a kind shadow boxes and diorama from new and reclaimed wood. DiRosaria draws inspiration from turn of the century attractions and advertisement such as that of vaudeville and circus/side show and has an affinity for the the more sinful side of human nature. DiRosaria’s figures and characters are hand drawn and original to her own concept, one created they are mounted in hand made boxes that are layered with various elements including but not limited to, fabric, metal, paper, found objects and lighting.

DiRosaria will be creating on the spot figures from birch wood as well as working on processing of reclaimed woods, simple box building, preforming wood scrolling and painting using a variety of hand and power tools.

River Shepard Photographic Arts is the work of Jen Brunjes, a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on alternative-process photography. Her work utilizes 19th Century techniques---cyanotype, gum bichromate, and salt print---in handmade, reclaimed wood frames. Themes and inspirations are drawn from folk tales around the fire, mysticism at midnight, pre-dawn frost, and post-dusk thunderstorms.

Jen will be bringing her studio out to Palace Market to demonstrate her process for your viewing pleasure. Make sure not to miss this unique opportunity to learn a technique from the early days of photography!

Collin & Roz Galyean will be live Saturday upcycling drum symbols in the market! Collin and his wife Roz are the owners of Second Line Jewels. They started the company after a local band (Givers) gave Collin a broken drum symbol; he took it home to make his wife a bracelet and the rest is history. Roz now designs the jewelry and Collin brings it to life. Be sure to come and join us for this fun event!

Phillip Whitmore will be live Saturday printing his signature designs in the market! Phillip is the artist and owner of Inexplicable Confetti (started 2006). Using a rustic technique that rarely involves any technology, Whitmore draws, designs, and prints his own T-shirts in a little garage on Wednesday nights. Saturday evening however he'll be taking this unique process into the market for all to view! Come join and leave with a printed shirt of your own!

Make your own tiny clay food with Remy. Learn to use clay, chalk pastels and liquid clay medium to make whatever miniature food you want. After your delicious masterpiece is done turn it into a necklace, magnet, or pin!

Edward Wycliff, founder of Bow Shoeshoe, was recently named a "New Orleans Magazine Person to Watch" and there's no one better place to watch him that Saturday night at Palace Market! Edward will be sewing his bow-ties, neck-ties, and pocket squares on site. Come by and chat with him to find out why he and his business are worth watching!

Joshua will be creating his Norse-inspired reverse-twist arm rings, troll crosses (trollkors), and lunar crescentsJoshua Gates is the owner and primary metalsmith at Uruz Metals. Together with his wife, Chrystal, they design and create each product by hand in their small home studio located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joshua earned Bachelor's Degrees in Metals and Glass from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, with a minor in Art History specializing in tribal art. Influences from the American Craftsman and Art Nouveau movements of the late-1800s to early-1930s are present throughout his work.

This Saturday night, watch Nurhan create a series of watercolor paintings influenced by the early Japanese tradition of ink washes, brush strokes and mark-making. He will use the synchronicity between water and pigment to create landscapes of fauna and florals.

Wrought Ink's vision is to preserve the strange legends of New Orleans and show people a side of the region they don't always get to see. The stories depicted have had little media exposure but have been told for centuries! Wrought Ink hopes that its illustrations will help keep this part of New Orleans history and culture alive. I am a musician, front man for the band My Graveyard Jaw. Toured for many many years. I quit drinking 3 years ago , stopped playing music (for now) and in my crazy sobriety I found leather making. Been doing it for about 2 years  now. I make belts, wallets, knife sheaths, cases, guitar straps, bags, bracelets and pretty much will try anything anyone will throw at me.

Russian-born, Detroit-raised, and Nola-based artist, Oleg Kolbasov illuminates the dark subconscious with his eerie portrayals of figures and symbolism derived of his experiences and imagination. With a consistent color palate and a high attention to detail, he invites viewers to look within themselves, often prompting a positive proclamation to an image initially viewed as gloomy. His illustrations begin as pencil renderings before scanning and coloring digitally. 

During this live art session he will be breaking from his usual illustrative process and applying paintbrush to canvas.

Philip Rau of Dodeca Designs creates jewelry and crafts from local and exotic woods. Philip will be working on a lathe, the oldest machine tool ever invented by humans, spinning out wooden art Saturday night!

Ty is a van-life artist who specializes in pyrography (wood-burning). Through his travels around the country he has found inspiration from every part of each experience--whether it be the people he meets, the magic and freedom of the festival world (where he works in psychedelic harm-reduction), or the simple quiet beauty of nature. It is his hope that through his art he can honor the wonder of creation, and inspire more people to follow their own magic. Repurposing is very important to his beliefs, so each piece of wood used is found in nature or from recycled material.

Edward started his tie company in Lesotho back in 2015. He started teaching communities to sew his designs to bring entrepreneurial development to the country he had fallen in love with as a Peace Corps volunteer.

To date, Edward has taught more than 150 people to sew ties in Lesotho, using their traditional fabric called Shoeshoe/Shweshwe. Through his company, Bow Shoeshoe, Edward helps give villages in Lesotho both skills and economic opportuntity.

Our passion for everything Elephant goes beyond painting the lovable creature itself, but in helping to protect this amazing animal for future generations to enjoy.

In conjunction with National Elephant Day (August 12) we will Be kickstarting a fundraiser for our favorite Elephant Foundation - The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

We will be helping sign people up to adopt and sponsor some of the cutest elephants as well as launching this campaign with the sale of this limited edition elephant charm necklace- 75% of the proceeds will be goes directly to DSWT!

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to help with the raising, protection and rereleasing into the wild of these orphaned elephants.

Katie Schmidt, designer and owner of Passion Lilie, will be demonstrating her pattern making process. You may be asking what is pattern making? In this case we are not referring to the fabric, but to the silhouette of the garment. The pattern is a paper template, made to the actual size of the garment that is then used to cut out and stitch the actual garment. I like to compare pattern making to an architect who creates the plans for a house. A lot of math and understanding of the curves of the body is involved in pattern making.

DCZ Deigns will be hosting live art on Saturday May 12th! Marek will be demonstrating hand carving wooden chains with chisels, using a single piece of wood.
